DANHAIVE

Olivier Danhaive, MD, is a Belgian neonatologist, U.S. board-certified in Pediatrics, professor of Pediatrics at Catholic University of Louvain, and adjunct full professor at the University of California, San Francisco. After a fellowship in perinatal/neonatal medicine in the Harvard joint program, he practiced neonatal intensive care in major institutions, including Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome and Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. Since 2018, he has directed the neonatal intensive care and neonatology division in Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels. His clinical expertise lies in developmental lung diseases, surfactant biology, respiratory disorders, pulmonary hypertension, advanced techniques of ventilation, point-of-care lung ultrasonography, extreme prematurity, and antenatal diagnosis. Dr Danhaive is a member of the U.S. Society of Pediatric Research (SPR), member of the European Society for Pediatric Research (ESPR) pulmonology board, member of the Council of the European Board of Neonatology and Child Health Research (ESPR), and leader of the Neonatal Online Training and Education Programme (NOTE) pulmonology course, European School of Neonatology (ESN). He is an associate editor of Respiratory Research. Dr Danhaive’s research focuses on rare diseases of the lung and other systems, including genetic developmental lung diseases, genetic disorders of surfactant dysfunction, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and neonatal ARDS. He co-directs the clinical working group of the TBX4Life international scientific consortium. He is a national representative of the European Research Consortium of the ESPR.
