Phil Fischer is an academic general pediatrician at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. He received his MD from the University of California, Irvine, did at pediatric residency at the University of Utah, gained a diploma from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and practiced in central Africa for six years before returning to a US base. He is currently a professor of pediatrics at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. As a generalist, Phil has broad interests. He sees complicated outpatients and hospitalized children representing all disciplines of pediatrics. He is active in the training of students and residents in the US and teaches widely around the world. His research has focused on tropical pediatrics, travel medicine, nutritional deficiencies, and, especially over the past two decades, chronic fatigue in adolescents. He has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers, serves editorial boards of several journals, and is co-editor of both editions of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Textbook of Global Child Health.
