ROLAND

HENTSCHEL

Roland Hentschel is a neonatologist, pediatric intensive care specialist, and pediatric pulmonologist. He is also a clinical researcher and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His special interests are lung function measurement, ventilation, and malformations and diseases of the lungs of newborns and preterm infants. The German Research Council (DFG) supported part of this scientific work. He studied medicine in Duesseldorf and Muenster, Germany. He was a research fellow at the Institute of Immunology at the University of Muenster. Later, he was a resident at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology before he was trained in Pediatrics and Neonatology at University Hospital Muenster. From 1988 to 1996, he was a consultant and Deputy head at the Division of Neonatology and Intensive Care Medicine, University Children’s Hospital Muenster. Since 1996, he has been Head of the Division of Neonatology and Intensive Care Medicine, Department of General Pediatrics, Medical Center, University of Freiburg. In 2003, he was appointed as a “Privatdozent” (university lecturer) for Neonatology and Pediatrics. In 2012, he received an appointment as Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Freiburg. In 2013, he was president of the annual tri-national congress of the German-speaking countries on Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine (GNPI). Dr Hentschel is accredited as a specialist in pediatrics, neonatology, pediatric intensive care medicine, and pediatric pulmonary medicine in the respective scientific societies in Germany. He is a member of the German Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ), the Society for Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care (GNPI), the Society for Pediatric Pulmonology (GPP), the European Society for Pediatric Research (ESPR), the European Society for Neonatology (ESN), and the Divi (German Interdisciplinary Society for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine). He is a member of the editorial board of 5 international scientific journals in the field of Perinatology and Pediatrics. More than 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles by Dr. Hentschel have been indexed in PubMed. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
