Vasilica Plaiasu MD, PhD trained as a clinical geneticist at Bucharest Regional Medical Genetic Center integrated in the National Institute for Mother and Child Care (INSMC Alessandrescu-Rusescu), Pediatrics Department, which receives the cases mainly from the south and south-east parts of the country.Dr.Plaiasu is an active member of numerous national and international societies, including Romanian Society of Medical Genetics, European Society of Human Genetics, Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism. She is senior researcher and also vicepresident of Romanian Society of Medical Genetics. In 2016 she was appointed head of Regional Center of Medical Genetics. She become member of SSIEM (Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism) 4 years ago and every year she has attended the European conference. The education in this field is based on specialised books and medical literature plus many participations at different conferences and expert meetings in this domain where she had prepared and had lectured nationally and internationally works about inherited metabolic conditions. She has become increasingly involved to draw awareness to rare disorders by organizing ten consecutive symposium editions devoted to Rare Disease Day within the institute and presenting many specialized conferences and also she has expertise in dysmorphology, clinical diagnosis of metabolic disorders, postnatal clinical cytogenetics.
