Arine Vlieger has been a general pediatrician at the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands, for over twenty years. She has special expertise in gastrointestinal diseases, the microbiome, and the brain-gut connection. She is currently a member of the international Rome V group, which redefines the current Rome IV criteria for disorders of the gut-brain interaction. Moreover, she is a member of the international Espghan/ Naspghan guideline committee on functional abdominal pain disorders. She has been trained in pediatric hypnotherapy in the United States between 2002 and 2004. For more than 20 years, she has been teaching the use of medical hypnosis in children, in the Netherlands and abroad, and is the chair of the Dutch foundation for Hypnosis in Children. This foundation has set up an English, Dutch, and Spanish website for home-based hypnosis treatment of chronic abdominal pain in children. She has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles as well as 9 chapters for several books.
