Between 1991 and 1998, Nicole Wolf studied medicine at the Ruprecht-Karl University Heidelberg, Germany, with a scholarship of the prestigious German National Scholarship Foundation, and at Queen’s University Belfast. She received her doctoral degree in 1998 for experimental work on proliferation control of chromaffin cells under the supervision of Prof. Dr. K. Unsicker, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. She specialised in paediatrics and child neurology at the University Children’s Hospital Heidelberg and spent her last year as a fellow in child neurology at the Kinderspital Zürich. She started to work on leukodystrophies in 2000 and moved in 2008 to the Center for Childhood White Matter Disorders, Amsterdam, where she is PI for hypomyelination and metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). She identified several new hypomyelinating leukodystrophies, among which 4H leukodystrophy.Regarding MLD, she works on treatment outcomes and pathophysiology. She is also directly involved in clinical care for leukodystrophy patients. She (co)authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications and 10 book chapters. In 2017, she was appointed associate professor. She is editor-in-chief of Neuropediatrics and a member of the editorial board of Neurology. She regularly serves as a reviewer for high-impact journals (among them NEJM and The Lancet).
